Functions of different basic ingredients in cement
Functions of different basic ingredients in all cement:-
The role of different components in common cement is discussed below:
1. Silica - This creates the strength of the cement and maintains the setting time of the cement.
Excessive power loss occurs and setting time is delayed.
2. Alumina - It helps to melt the cement making materials, forms lumps at low temperatures and speeds up the setting time of cement.
Cement is weak in high presence and setting time is so fast that it is difficult to finish the work in it.
3. Lime - It is the main bonding and strengthening material of cement. If it is low, the strength of the cement decreases and the setting time comes forward.
Excessive use reduces the tensile strength of cement and makes it prone to expansion and cracking.
4. Iron Oxide - This is the hardness, strength and color of cement. Moreover, in a heated room - it helps the cement material to melt faster.
Excessive use of cement expands and cracks.
5. Magnesium oxide - This is the hardening and coloring properties of cement. In high doses, the cement is non-sticky or binding insoluble.
6.Gypsum - In its presence the initial setting time of cement is determined. If it is high, the initial setting time is delayed. If it is low, it is accelerated.
7 . Sulfur trioxide - Its slight presence strengthens the cement. But the presence of overdose gives the opposite result.
8 . Alkali - It increases the lubricity and workability of cement. But in high doses, the elorescence defect occurs after the cement work.
